My Story

I’m Marcus Ehrlich, and I’ve spent the last decade obsessing over numbers that tell stories. Born and raised in Munich, I studied Information Systems at the Technical University of Munich before moving to Berlin — a city that matched my energy and appetite for the fast-moving digital world.

My career started in 2015 at a small Berlin-based startup where I wore every hat imaginable. I built their first analytics infrastructure from scratch — Google Analytics, tag management, custom dashboards — and watched as data-driven decisions transformed a scrappy team into a serious contender in the European e-commerce space.

By 2018, I’d joined Zalando as a Senior Web Analyst, leading a team of five across conversion optimization and attribution modeling. We reduced customer acquisition costs by 34% in eighteen months by rethinking how we measured multi-touch campaigns. That experience taught me that the biggest wins in analytics aren’t in the data itself — they’re in asking the right questions.

In 2021, I took the leap into independent consulting and launched Faqirs Digital. The name comes from an old conversation with a colleague: “In the land of the blind, the one with data is king.” Today, I help mid-market companies across Europe build analytics cultures that actually drive decisions, not just decorate dashboards.

Founder & Lead Analyst — Faqirs Digital

Launched an independent analytics consultancy serving mid-market European companies. Built a client portfolio spanning e-commerce, SaaS, and fintech sectors across Germany, Netherlands, and the Nordics.

2018 — 2021

Senior Web Analyst — Zalando SE, Berlin

Led a 5-person analytics team focused on conversion optimization and multi-touch attribution. Reduced CAC by 34% through data-driven campaign restructuring. Built real-time dashboards monitoring €50M+ in annual ad spend.

2015 — 2018

Digital Analyst — Komoot GmbH, Berlin

First analytics hire at a fast-growing outdoor navigation startup. Built the entire measurement stack: Google Analytics, GTM containers, A/B testing framework, and the first BI dashboards. Grew monthly active users tracking from zero to 2M+ events per day.

2013 — 2015

M.Sc. Information Systems — TU Munich

Thesis: “Predictive User Behavior Modeling in E-Commerce Conversion Funnels.” Combined machine learning techniques with web analytics data to predict purchase probability. Published in two peer-reviewed journals.

Beyond the Data

When I’m not staring at dashboards, you’ll find me cycling through Brandenburg’s countryside, experimenting with pour-over coffee techniques, or arguing with friends about whether attribution models can ever truly be “solved” (spoiler: they can’t).

I’m a regular speaker at MeasureCamp Berlin and Analytics Summit Hamburg. I also volunteer as a mentor at ReDI School of Digital Integration, teaching web analytics fundamentals to newcomers building careers in tech.

I believe the best analytics work is invisible — it doesn’t scream “look at this dashboard!” but quietly shapes better decisions every single day. That’s what I aim to build for every client and what I write about on this blog.
